Community Services can Help Ease Financial Burden after Divorce

In the aftermath of your Virginia divorce, you may face some new financial issues. Every divorce is different and some women have to deal with more financial difficulties than others.

You may suddenly find yourself noticing just how much the day-to-day necessities cost and you may even have trouble meeting your family's needs and saving money. If you are in this situation after a Virginia divorce, you should consider taking advantage of community services for lower-income families.

Community services exist to help keep your family healthy and happy while you rebuild your life. Most of the time, community services such as these have an income limit you'll need to meet but you may be surprised to find that you qualify.

 Find out if your community offers services such as:

  • food banks;
  • free school breakfast for kids;
  • assistance with heating costs; and
  • community clothes closets (for work and school clothing).

Some women find it emotionally difficult to seek out community services as a way of saving money after a Virginia divorce because it feels likes charity, something most of us were raised to avoid. If you‘re genuinely in need, there's nothing shameful about seeking help for yourself and your children. Don't allow temporary problems to affect your self-esteem; instead, focus on improving your future.
