Creating New Holiday Family Traditions after Your Separation in VA

Approaching the holidays while going through a separation in VA can be especially difficult when you’ve got children; they rely on their parents as the foundation for their sense of happiness and security, a need that seems to magnify during the holidays.

The key to helping your children through the difficult transition time is to temporarily put aside your own negative emotions, and instead focus on creating new, positive traditions for you and your children to embrace.

Here are 3 fun and festive activities to try:
  • Holiday Lights – why not make it a tradition to go driving around to admire all the holiday lights and decorations together? You could start at the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, which has an awesome display of lights sure to bring about plenty of “ooohs” and “ahhhs.”
  • Take in a Show – you could make it a new tradition to get dressed up and venture out to see a show together. The Sandler Center, for example, often has holiday performances where you and your children can go and simply enjoy each other’s company.
  • Volunteer –make a difference and keep the true spirit of the holidays in the forefront of your minds by helping those less fortunate. Why not make it a new tradition to donate your time and efforts at a local ministry such as Union Mission Ministries or For Kids?
The holidays are steeped in tradition, and you should feel free to release the ones that no longer serve you or your children after your separation in VA.
