How to Win Virginia Child Custody

In a divorce case, no one really wins - especially not the children. The courts award custody based on the best interest of the children. With that in mind, there are a few things that you can do to show the judge that you should be awarded custody of your children.

The first thing to remember in a Virginia child custody case is to always be honest.
If you lie during your trial, you will more than likely be caught. Tell the judge honestly why living with you would be the best for your child. Please note that putting down the other parent or name calling will not work in your favor.

Your Virginia divorce attorney should help you collect evidence on your behalf. For example, always document situations with your husband that are of concern to you: does he bring your child home tired, hungry, and dirty? Likewise, you should also write down the activities that you do with your child.

Your Virginia divorce lawyer may bring in witnesses to testify that you are a good parent.
Witnesses may include friends, family, teachers, and doctors who have first-hand knowledge of your parenting skills.

Even if you are fighting for physical custody, you should allow your ex-spouse ample visitation with your children. It is important for children to interact with both parents and develop a good relationship. If you can show the court that you understand this, the judge may be willing to award you primary custody.
