Misconceptions about Dating After Divorce in Virginia

When you're ready, dating after divorce can be a fun, positive step to take. It's not always easy getting back on the dating scene after years of marriage, but knowing what pitfalls to avoid can help you have a better experience after Virginia divorce.

Some of the common misconceptions about post-divorce dating include:
  • It will give you more self-confidence. Are you looking to make your ex jealous? Do you feel very lonely and vulnerable and simply want someone's attention? Then it's probably best to wait. Take some time to heal and feel more secure so that you can approach relationships as a fully healed soul.
  • You need to find someone with more money/social skills/hobbies, etc. than your ex. This is a very common idea, particularly when someone was married for a long time. You may find yourself judging every new man you meet against your ex's traits...both the traits you loved and those you hated. It's best to get over this habit. Your ex-husband is a unique person and whoever you meet, you should enjoy spending time with them for their own special qualities.
  • Ignore your anxieties because you have to get over them sometime. No matter the situation, dating can cause some anxiety. When dating after divorce, your best bet is to go slowly; try casual lunch dates at first. Go at your own pace.
Allow yourself to heal and to feel ready before you put yourself out there. With time, you can move on and have a full life and rewarding relationships after Virginia divorce.

Concerns about children, mortgages, and even just paying the bills or buying groceries can easily become overwhelming.
