Telltale Signs Your Spouse Is Hiding Assets

Any experienced Newport News divorce attorney will tell you that suspicion is a large part of many Virginia divorces.

When a marriage is falling apart, it's not unusual for the partners to suspect each other of all kinds of underhanded activities. Sometimes, these suspicions are merely expressions of the parties' mutual disillusionment with one another and aren't based on anything factual. In other cases, however, there is basis for the mistrust.

Hiding assets is something some spouses engage in when they foresee the end of their marriage.
There are many reasons why a spouse might be hiding assets and many ways for him or her to accomplish this type of deception.

While it might be difficult to know whether or not your husband is hiding assets, there are some things that could possibly tip you off.

Is your husband secretive with the mail, or does he have a post office box only he has access to? This is one sign that he may be hiding assets. Unusual ATM withdrawals can be a clue. He may accidentally leave receipts from these in places you can find them.

Taking a look at all bank accounts and stock holdings can also give you a wealth of information. If money or stocks are suddenly missing or "moved", you should investigate further.

If you notice these signs of hidden assets during your Virginia divorce, you should discuss your concerns with your Newport News divorce attorney. Your attorney can find out a great deal of information much more quickly and effectively than you can on your own, in most cases.
