Utilizing Your Skills as a Stay-At-Home Mom to Find a Job

As a stay-at-home mom, you probably have more uncertainties concerning divorce than women already in the work force. If you have been out of the job market for several years, it's natural to wonder if you can ever successfully re-enter it.

Many stay-at-home moms look at what they do as "just being a mom." But there are skills you have developed as a stay-at-home mom that can be used to help you find a job, and get financial security after divorce.

Emphasize and utilize those skills to your advantage. For instance, mothers are usually very organized. They know how to run a household well and can take those organizational skills into another setting.

You will also find that as a mother you've become adept at managing time. Getting from one appointment or activity to another and keeping up with everything that needs to be done requires great time management techniques. These can be very useful in the workforce.

Think about all the times you have had to negotiate with your children. You may not have thought of this as a useful skill but it's necessary in many work environments.

Communication, multi-tasking, intuition, motivating, and teaching are all skills that many stay-at-home moms develop and are valued by employers
. Don't dismiss what you have done as "just being a mom." Those skills can help you find a job and attain financial security after divorce.
