4 Things That’ll Get You to Stop Being so Hard on Yourself
Women endure a daily and constant barrage of images and messages about what it means to be a woman in today’s society -- thin, perfect, career-minded, family-oriented, a great cook and the list goes on. It can be dizzying trying to keep up with the so-called “norm” and we could focus the backlash of not being able to accomplish all of these things on ourselves. So how do we stop treating the reflection in the mirror less like the bad guy and more like our friend?
Forgive Yourself – Learn to move forward from mistakes you’ve made and for allowing yourself to be less than perfect.
Stop Comparing Yourself to Others – You’ll always be able to find someone “better” than you if you keep looking. Focus on yourself -- what you like about you and what makes you unique.
Don’t Believe the Illusions – It can be easy to get sucked into thinking that the models in magazines or actresses on TV are really what they seem, but it’s important to take a reality check and realize that no one, not even those pictured, can live up to that standard.
Celebrate the Small Things – Reward yourself for small victories. Things like losing 5 pounds, having dinner on the table before your husband gets home, nailing a presentation at work are all things that deserve to be recognized and will inspire you in your life. Treat yourself with a glass of wine or new blouse.
