Underused or Overlooked Perks of Your Employee Benefits
When we interview for a job, not only are our prospective employers taking account of what we could offer them, but we should also look for things that benefit us. Of course there’s health insurance and obviously a paycheck – but what else could your employer be offering that you don’t know about or haven’t used?
Free Food – How much do you spend on your take-out lunch or Starbucks coffee a week? Add it up over months and even years, and you can see a hefty amount of change. Many companies offer free coffee or snacks that aren’t the sludge and expired Twinkies of yesterday. Check out what your break room has to offer.
Child Care – Ever been stuck at the office later than expected and have to frantically call around to arrange for care until you get home? Even if your direct employer doesn’t offer daycare, you could negotiate a stipend to cover it. Many large corporate buildings with several companies offer a large daycare for all tenants. See if yours does or if one around the block would be willing to work with you.
Tuition Assistance – Have you been dying to go back to school for years and finish your degree? Maybe you’re looking to advance in your department but don’t have the education to merit a promotion. Many employers will assist their worker’s with the cost of college or even pay for it altogether. Each company has different stipulations, but some employees might not even know this option exists.
